Our programs include opportunities for writers, lyricists, composers, actors, singers, directors, music directors, and everyone with a love for new musical theatre.
The Academy's fabled Core Curriculum, now in its fourth decade sharpening writers' skills in musical theatre craft. The first half of the 9-month curriculum focuses on the stalwarts of musical theatre: the ballad, charm song, comedy song, duet, musical scene and ensemble. The final project is a 15-minute produced by ANMT in a professional theatre in Los Angeles.
Three-to-four evenings a month from September through June.
The Teen Level of the Performers' Workshop - GET TO BROADWAY SOONER! Broadway actor and coach Joshua Finkel will participants in learning the following skills: Choosing appropriate songs for auditions; Learning how to cut and prepare music for auditions; Learning how to talk to the accompanist in the room; Learning the art of walking into the audition room and presenting a song in an dynamic and fully emotional fashion; Singing tips for negotiate difficult singing passages; Cold Reading Techniques for callbacks; Learning to comfortably sing in the four main styles of Musical Theater: Legit/Broadway, Jazz, Pop/Rock and Country; Learning some basic dance audition moves to feel more comfortable in a beginning dance audition.
Writing a musical? Developing a musical? For producers, we facilitate the creation of musicals which are tailor-made for your theatre, your audience, and your budget - often from your original idea. For writers, we offer dramaturgical sessions, table readings, and full workshops.
ANMT's Musical Theatre Boot Camp is a summer series of workshops, lectures, and practicums designed to give participants a chance to work quickly over a concentrated six week period. It's also a great place to check us out before committing to our full curriculum in the fall.
The Performers' Workshop (Level 1) at ANMT is an intensive training opportunity focused on supplying singing actors with a solid background and skill base in the art of musical theatre auditioning and performance. Offered by Broadway performer and director/acting coach Joshua Finkel, the PW accepts an intimate group of singing actors to meet for three sessions over the course of the academic year (September through May).
The Academy Repertory Company is a membership based ensemble of actors dedicated to developing new works for the musical theatre alongside the writer members of The Academy for New Musical Theatre.
